Saving Lives in Ukraine

A personal campaign sponsored by relief initiative of American Families of Kansas, USA

Millions of UKRAINIAN people may lose their lives in the coming months due to starvation and freezing temperatures.

Tens of thousands of families in Ukraine are pleading for our help.

We are collecting for the most necessary things to help get through the winter:

  • power generators (since there is no electricity) to run the water pump and provide lighting
  • wood burning stoves (since there is no gas)
  • sleeping bags
  • winterwear (it will be a harsh winter there for the next 6 months)
  • tools to build deep wells (since there is no drinking water in the taps)
  • food, medicine, accommodation
  • and transportation (from Poland to Ukraine)

The biggest priority is to help the Auxiliary Bishop Jan Sobilo of the Diocese of Kharkiv-Zaporizhzhia in Ukraine and his parishioners.

In the diocese of Kharkiv-Zaporizhzhia in Ukraine there are approx. 60,000 Catholics. In many places there is nowhere to sleep (unless in shelters and basements in demolished houses), no access to drinking water, no gas and no electricity. Due to the destroyed infrastructure, there is also no easy access to food. Our brothers and sisters in faith have to constantly hide from about 300 missile attacks a day. Every day a loved one is killed by a deadly bullet or explosion. The bishop Jan along with all his priests, also sleep in basements, and at the same time give shelter to anyone who needs it; They are now building their own deep well to share water with parishioners.

Other verified needy groups

  • "School number 8", schools and families on the border town of Chelm, Poland, who have taken in hundreds of Ukrainian children, including taking care of orphans.
  • "Beata", a group of Polish volunteers from Warsaw who, among other things, make ten thousand sandwiches a day and give them to refugees as well as the sick in Ukraine.
  • "Karina", a group of Ukrainian volunteers who organize logistics in Ukraine.
